Cannabis breeders interview:
Cees (No Mercy Supply)

- With this interview with Cees, breeder of the No Mercy Supply seedbank, we continue the conversations serie with the best cannabis breeders of the world, with the purpose to get the CAÑAMO readers closer to the interesting world of the professional production of cannabis seeds. We should not forget that the seeds are in the groundwork of the marihuana homegrowing, and this breeders are the developers of the varieties we smoke. -

José T. Gallego: When did you start growing cannabis?

Cees: 31 years ago ( I was 16 years)

How was the beginning?

In the garden·my parents didn’t know , so a little sniekie.

How and when did you start breeding and selling seeds?

I started breeding when I was 21 or 22 ! (went to France to buy my first lamp an orchid breeder did sell it to me, a 1000 watt lamp) because it was hard to get clones in this time. I'm selling seeds just 4 years now.

How many seed varieties do you sell?

3 strains female seed, 6 strains regular seed.

How do you develop a new variety?

By inbreeding, by manipulation, by selection, by crossing.

How long does it take?

Pffffffffffff! ..next question.. hahahaaa! Sometimes years and years, but since I can create female seed, I'm in F6 after 1 year. But sometimes I like the hybride strains !

Whats your infrastructure? (greenhouses, indoor rooms, etc.)

Indoor rooms, outdoor gardens, 1 greenhouse ( 3 x 4 x 2.5 meter)

To breed new varieties, do you have a parents plants room? How many varieties are in it? How long have you being keeping them?
yes and no...most strains are stored as seed. By now we have 7 or 8 strains. The oldest I kept was 3 years.

Which variety is you breeding favourite? (as parent)

Santa María

What is the most difficult thing about breeding a new variety?

Aiiiiiiii, that's not one item, it's a mix of items that must fit ! ( smell..taste, good roots, good healthy plant, buds heave to close, 11-12 weeks maximum flowering time, a right high..not the paranoia hyperventilation-thing.)
